5 Foods in My Autistic Kitchen

5 Foods That Are Always in My Autistic Kitchen

1. Cinnamon

Okay, technically a spice, but c’mon! 😜

From my first cup of coffee in the morning to my mug cake before bed, I put cinnamon on EVERYTHING.

There’s just something about the soothing sensory input of cinnamon that fills my entire body with cozy vibes.

Plus, did you know that cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties? All the better reason to keep dumping it on everything, lol!

2. Bread

My relationship with carbs has evolved a LOT in the past decade…I used to have so many rules around eating bread specifically.

I was only “allowed” to eat it once per day and when I did, it was 2 slices MAX.

When I experienced extreme hunger though, my body clearly illustrated to me how much I love (and need) bread. It’s such a great food to have on hand because you can go in any direction with bread!

3. Frozen produce

I don't know about you, but having loads of fresh produce in the house really stresses me out πŸ˜¬

Knowing that it has a short-term expiration date fills me with intense pressure that I HAVE to eat it, which activates my demand avoidance!

That’s where frozen produce is just a game changer...

Not only can I rest easy knowing that I always have fruits + veggies on hand, but I don’t have to worry about planning when I’m going to use them up.

4. Nuts + Spreads

Pass the peanut butter, please! πŸ₯œ (Or if you’re allergic, sunflower seed butter and tahini are two of my nut-free faves).

Nuts and seeds provide protein and plenty of fats, which are essential for healthy hormones and cognitive function.

Certain vitamins (A, D, E, and K) and minerals (including iron, calcium, and magnesium, among many others) are fat-soluble, meaning your body can only absorb these nutrients when adequate fat is present!

5. Nuzest Clean Lean Protein

You’ve likely heard me talk about this vegan protein powder before, and that’s because I honestly can’t live without it!

Nuzest Clean Lean Protein is a 100% plant-based powder made from premium European golden peas 🌱

It has a silky smooth texture and is super easy to digest, making it the perfect staple in any autistic kitchen!
